John Komnick, Director of Operations, Coach, IMPACT certified

Coach Komnick begins his 6th Season with Springfield Shock as the Club Director, Recruiting Coordinator and a coach. During the 2017 season, Coach Komick led his Shock 18-Elite squad to the Clubs first every Gold Medal Top 5 finish at a major National Qualifier, where they tied for 3rd Place at the Nike Mid-East Qualifier.  In 2018, Coach Komnick led his 14-Elite squad to a top 20 finish at AAU Nationals in Orlando. Coach Komnick’s 2019 15-National squad finished the Covid-Shortened season at 30-1, winning the Nashville AAU Super Regional and automatically qualifying for AAU Nationals in Orlando. The team then followed that victory up with another AAU Qualifier championship at the Rockin’ Rockford AAU Grand Prix. The season ended shortly thereafter, and the team elected not to travel to a reduced nationals in the midst of Covid.

Coach Komnick is the former head Women’s Volleyball Coach at Robert Morris University at Springfield, where in his second season, he guided his 2016 squad to a 16-11 record, the most wins for the program in eight year span. As the former Head Jr. High Volleyball Coach in the Waverly School District. He guided his 2015 WJHS team to an Elite 8 appearance in the State Finals. He has previously spent two years as an Assistant Coach at Illinois College, and two seasons as the Varsity Head Coach at Bunker Hill High School. Coach Komnick has also spent time coaching at the USA Youth National team summer programs.  Coach Komnick has several years of competitive playing experience as a setter/opposite at the club level.

Coach Komnick is employed as a Kindergarten teacher at Enos Elementary in Springfield Public School District 186
